Christian Book Expo

the Christian Book Expo

In the fall of 2004 I interviewed 35 CEOs, visited 15 publishing houses, and surveyed our entire membership to determine the challenges and needs of our industry. There was an amazing consistency in the response. Perhaps the most significant issue was “lack of awareness and connectedness to the Church.” At that point, the idea of a consumer- and church-based “book fair” was born. Since then, the idea has been nurtured through the ECPA board, the new “Book Fair Task Force,” and the ECPA staff. Challenges were raised, research was done, visits to other consumer shows were made, and more publisher visits and interviews were conducted. The result is what is now presented to you as the Christian Book Expo (CBE).

This event was created based on needs clearly expressed by publishers, developed by many of these same publishers, and will continue to be shaped by numerous publisher-based communities. This is truly your event! Now it is time for you to ignite the fire of word-of-mouth by creating an experience with your content that will encourage, inspire, and motivate readers. This is the event you have been waiting for to showcase authors and messages to a highly-engaged audience and fan the flames of awareness. Please join us in this huge endeavor. We covet your comments and suggestions as we make this event a reality.

Q: What is Christian Book Expo?
A: In a sentence, Christian Book Expo (CBE) is a consumer book show open to everyone who cares about Christian books. This first-ever book fair, CBE Dallas 2009, will feature 150 - 200 workshops, seminars and mini-events lead by authors in their areas of expertise, as well as an exhibit floor showcasing the books. Some of the mini-events will be panel discussions featuring authors discussing contemporary or theological issues from varying perspectives.

Christian Book Expo is sponsored by ECPA (Evangelical Christian Publishers Association) and will showcase authors and books representing a broad variety of genres, denominations, ethnicities and political viewpoints. The uniting element for our publishers, and by extension for CBE, is a commitment to making the Christian message widely known.
