Pastor Surveys, Book Fair Visits, and Dallas-area Meetings Underway in Expo Planning

Published in: E-Link, December 2007

Plans for the Christian Book Expo continue to develop on several fronts. As exhibitor registrations remain steady, your CBE management team is making the effort to gather valuable insight and research data that will help make this event as successful as possible. Several highlights from current and upcoming efforts include:

November 2007 – Visit to the Miami International Book Fair

  • More than 200,000 visitors participated in this 8-day, free-to-the-public event – featuring a vendor street fair, multiple workshop presentations by renowned authors/speakers, and an interactive and energetic “Children’s Alley”
  • 100+ exhibitors, including publishers, local/national retailers, media, and other vendors
November 2007 – Visit to the Guadalajara International Book FairGuadalajara Book Fair
  • Estimated attendance of more than 525,000 visitors (professional and public), making it the largest Spanish-language book event and the second-largest book fair in the world
  • 500,000 sf of exhibit space, featuring more than 300 exhibitors – including 30+ exhibits larger than 5,000 sf
  • Nine consecutive days of operation, including three days restricted to trade and professional participants
  • Direct sales to consumers from all booths (including publishers, retailers, and distributors), utilizing wireless Internet connectivity throughout the exhibition facility
  • Partnerships with local schools resulting in tens of thousands of children and youth on site, featuring an expansive “El Ninos” area providing interactive educational and craft activities
  • A comprehensive show database of all titles available for on-site purchase, providing visitors searchable access to product by title, author, publisher, and theme

December 2007 – Participation in Barna “Pastor Survey”
ECPA will be working with the Barna Group to solicit input from nationwide pastors regarding their interest in book fair-type events, their perceived objectives for participation, and their feedback on various pricing levels for consumer participation. Responses gathered will be highly relevant to the ongoing development of CBE marketing/promotional strategies and event programming.

December 2007 / January 2008 – Meetings with Dallas-area pastors/authors
ECPA will be working with member publishers to schedule face-to-face meetings with Dallas-area pastors/authors to introduce them to the concept of the Christian Book Expo and to partner with them in creating an event that raises the awareness of Christian resources to assist in ongoing discipleship and spiritual formation.
